Over the years, much has been said about how to revitalize the old part of the pialba business district. I personally believe that there is a fundamental problem that needs to be addressed. We need a suburb called Hervey Bay City, which includes the CBD. Currently, the central business district is located in the suburb of Pialba and bordered by a central business district in Urauina, which makes many foreigners not understand where the central business district is. It is also difficult for companies to present themselves nationally, domestically or internationally if they write their address as Pialba, which does not mean anything outside the region. The region has spent millions of dollars to designate the city as a destination, but there’s really no part of the city called Hervey Bay, we officially only have Hervey Bay Bay.
In the age of new technologies, getting a clear brand in the market is extremely important because consumers now spend most of their searches on the Internet using search engines such as Google. Anyone in Sydney who wants to do business in Hervey Bay is not looking for a suburb like Pialba; they recognize the Hervey Bay brand just like in Maryborough or Brisbane.
The problem goes far beyond conventional branding, it is reflected in real estate magazines and websites showing the value of real estate for all suburbs in the area, but the suburb of Hervey Bay is not. On many weather maps our area is not marked, just look at many state and national newspapers; they bypass Hervey Bay on their maps, although they show many cities with much smaller populations. Some weather maps for the evening news do the same. Visit many travel search engines, such as Google Maps, RAC’, and the location of the city is different, and you don’t get a clear or consistent CBD location. It does not exist separately from the city plan.
Since someone works in the CBD and runs a large commercial business across the state and on the highway, it is a constant source of confusion, and it is very difficult to get accurate statistics showing CBD sales, population, values, etc. . It is also difficult to explain to anyone interstate that there is no CBD suburb and that part of Pialba or Uraween occupies the CBD.
